As a Part Time CommandCare associate you are eligible for the following benefits:

  • PTO hours are paid using the associate’s standard hourly rate (Accrual begins upon the associates' start date).
  • Associates can only use PTO time accrued inclusive of PTO Bank (if applicable).


There are two types of PTO. They are defined as follows:

Planned PTO

The associate must provide his/her supervisor with two weeks notice prior to using PTO. (Less than two weeks notice may be acceptable, depending on the situation and must be approved by the supervisor). This includes, but is not limited to time off for vacations, personal leave appointments, religious holidays, or other time away from the office.

Unplanned PTO

CommandCare expects each associate to maintain a good attendance record. Unscheduled PTO will be monitored.

Unplanned PTO would include time such as sick days or other unforeseen time away from work. This is also inclusive of the use of sick time under the various NJ Sick Leave Ordinances.

Associates shall be permitted to take PTO (Planned or Unplanned) in 4 or 8 hour increments.


Once the Paid Time Off allowance is used, any additional time taken off will be uncompensated and may subject an associate to corrective action up to and including termination.


Associates will be able to carryover a maximum of 40 hours per year to accumulate a total of 70 carryover hours. Any time in excess of these hours is considered lost time.


PTO hours will not be payable upon resignation of employment. Unused PTO will not be paid out to the associate upon separation of employment.

401(k) Plan

Associates who meet one of the following criteria are eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan:

  • Three months of service and 300 hours worked, or
  • 1,000 hours worked from anniversary year to anniversary year, or
  • 1,000 hours worked in a calendar year

Eligible associates may enroll in the plan on the first of the month once the eligibility requirement above is met.


Contributions may be made up to 100% of salary up to a maximum allowance of $18,000 in 2016. Associates who reach the age of 50 by December 31, 2016 can contribute an additional $6,000 in 2016.             

CommandCare’s 401(k) plan is administered through T. Rowe Price. CommandCare offers a match and it is based upon years of service:

  • Under 1 Year – No match
  • After 1 Year – Dollar for dollar up to 3% of salary to a maximum of $1,000 during the anniversary period, capped at $41.66 per pay period.
  • After 2 Years - Dollar for dollar up to 4.5% of salary to a maximum of $1,500 during the anniversary period, capped at $62.50 per pay period.
  • After 3 Years - Dollar for dollar up to 6% of salary to a maximum of $2,000 during the anniversary period, capped at $83.33 per pay period.
  • After 4 Years - Dollar for dollar up to 6% of salary to a maximum of $2,000 during the anniversary period, capped at $83.33 per pay period.
  • After 5 Years -Dollar for dollar up to 7.5% of salary to a maximum of $2,500 during the anniversary period, capped at $104.16 per pay period.

"Anniversary period" above means the period between each anniversary date of hire.

Short-Term Disability

The short term disability benefit is provided by the State of New Jersey up to a maximum of 26 weeks.

Tuition Waiver – Berkeley College Undergraduate

Part time associates are eligible after completing six (6) months of service and working 910 hours. Live-in CHHA associates are eligible after completion of six (6) months of service and working 120 shifts. Eligible associates can enroll in no more than eight (8) credits during any one term.

Associates who meet eligibility can enroll beginning on the first day of classes, on a space-available basis in Berkeley non-graduate courses.

All courses must be taken during non-work time. Associates are required to apply for federal and/or state financial aid in order to be eligible for this benefit. CommandCare will pay the tuition after all other federal and/or state grants, and will not exceed the remaining cost of tuition and fees (see the Financial Aid office).

All fees are the responsibility of the student (Application fee, Technology fee, Administrative fee and Credit for Prior Learning Fee).

Any program where books/supplies are included in the cost of the tuition is not covered by CommandCare and is the responsibility of the student.
